NEW THIS YEAR
The ORCC summer camp programs have 4 different options for children and youth that are looking to have fun on the water learning how to canoe, kayak, dragon boat, outrigger, and Stand Up Paddle Board. The Junior Canoe Kids, Canoe Kids and Youth Paddling Camps are non-competitive camps and are designed to provide children and youth an opportunity to paddle and socialize with their friends in a fun camp environment. Campers develop water safety awareness and paddling skills while increasing their confidence on the water. The focus is on summer fun! The Intro to Competition camp is for those youth who have a more competitive side and are interested in developing their skills in our racing boats, then competing at a local regatta against other clubs from within our division.
For more information on any of the camps or to register click on the camp name below.
If camps are unable to run because of COVID restrictions, participants will receive a full reimbursement minus any credit card fees.
Canoe Kids Camp (8-11 years)
The Canoe Kids camp provides a fun camp environment for children to learn fundamental canoe and kayak skills and to encourage a lifelong interest in paddling. Campers spend most of their days on the water paddling and socialize with their friends in a fun team environment. Participants develop water safety awareness and paddling skills while increasing their confidence on the water. Campers will go on day trips to Riverside Beach, Aylmer Island and other fun local attractions. The camping day includes on-land active games, crafts, and discovery time. The focus is on summer fun!
Junior Canoe Kids Camp (6-7 years)
The Junior Canoe Kids camp is for our youngest campers. It provides similar activities to our Canoe Kids Camp, but at a pace that is more suitable for 6 & 7 year olds. Campers will spend a little more time playing field games, doing arts and crafts, and other fun activities compared to our Canoe Kids campers. The Junior Canoe Kids are often mixed with our Canoe Kids to go on trips to the beach and to Aylmer Island. Because of the age of the Junior Canoe Kids this program has smaller camper to staff ratios to allow for increased supervisions and safety.
Youth Paddling Camp (11-14 years)
NEW THIS YEAR! The Youth Paddling Camp is similar to our Canoe Kids camp, but for older youth. The youth will spend more time on the water in boats and will go on longer adventures than our Canoe Kids program. Some of our adventures include day trips to Aylmer Island, Aylmer Beach, Piney's Point and other exciting places on the water. Participants in the Youth Paddling Camp will also have the opportunity to try out some of our more advanced boats, all while socializing and having fun with their friends.
Intro to Competition (11-14 years)
Do you have a competitive spirit? Would you like to try something fun and new? The Intro to Competition camp (similar to the old Regatta Ready Camp) would be a perfect camp for you. This camp is a great complement to either the Canoe Kids or Youth Paddling Camp, as paddlers, aged 11 to 14 years, build on their paddling skills in racing canoe and kayaks and have the opportunity to compete at a regional regatta. Campers will enjoy spending their days in and on the water in a team environment learning paddling skills in sprint canoe, sprint kayak, war canoe and dragon boat. This is a 3 week camp that runs from June 28-July 17. Participants who would like to continue for the remainder of the summer can join our full summer junior competitive program and compete at the Divisional and Provincial Championships. The program is designed to be a progressive summer program that nurtures our athletes to develop their paddling and racing skills.
