Recreational Kayaking
The Ottawa River Canoe Club offers flat water Kayak courses at the beginner, novice and intermediate levels for people who wish to learn or improve kayak paddling skills. The course is delivered outdoors at the Ottawa River Canoe Club site in West-End Ottawa (Kanata/Dunrobin) by our certified instructors. Following the successful completion of the course, participants will be able to paddle efficiently in a recreational kayak along lake shores in fair weather. 

Introduction to Kayaking 
An evening course that introduces you to the basic handling and strokes of this beautiful and versatile boat.

  • ORCC Member Cost: $45 per person
  • Non-member Cost: $75 per person

Intermediate Kayaking

A 2-3 hour course intended for participants who have completed our introductory recreational kayak course and wish to further develop and build on their paddling skills.

  • ORCC Member Cost: $45 per person
  • Non-member Cost: $75 per person


Intro to Kayak for Families

A 2-3 hour private lesson for families looking for some time together on the water.  This lesson can be tailored to your families needs, whether you are beginner, novice or intermediate paddlers.  Children should be at least 4 years old.

  • ORCC Member Cost: $35 per person
  • Non-member Cost: $65 per person

Private one-on-one "Learn to kayak" sessions: designed based on individual needs and time schedule and taught at a pace that suits you. 

  • ORCC Member Cost: $105 per person
  • Non-member Cost: $145 per person

Please be sure to dress appropriately for the sun and weather as the course is held outside and on-water. 

What to bring: 

  • swim suit and towel,
  • hat, sunscreen, 
  • long sleeve paddling top
  • secure shoes for walking on the rocky shoreline
  • warm clothes for afterwards, 
  • snack and a bottle of water. 

Effort level: moderate, with a few instances of relatively high intensity throughout the course. 

ORCC reserves the right to cancel a course due to bad weather and an alternate day/time will be offered to affected participants.

Kayak courses are typically scheduled on Tuesday's from 5:30 PM to around 8:00 PM.  Additional sessions may be added during the busy months (June, July, August) depending on demand.
